Sailing instruction as Lake Lotawana is open to any resident of Lake Lotawana or their grand children.  The program is underwritten by the Missouri Yacht Club and is designed to support the club's main charter: promoting sailing.

Classes are conducted by highly qualified sailing instructors who goal is to impart sailing schools to people of all ages in a manner that is fun for all involved.  Those people who are interested in extending their sailboat racing experience beyond the limits of Lake Lotawana are encouraged to do so by attending class events on lakes throughout the Midwest.  As an affiliate member with the Inland Yachting Association, Missouri Yacht Club attempts to co-ordinate its activities with the Inland's regatta schedule where ever possible.

Sailing instruction is held at Missouri Yacht Club at 71 M Street, Lake Lotawana.  The instructional boat of choice for sailing classes is the International Optimist, an affordable and easy to manuver boat for skippers of all ages.
